Why Nantucket Is Terrific For A Vacation
There are so many reasons Nantucket is a wonderful vacation spot. Once you’ve been to Nantucket, it’s easy to understand the statement ‘there’s nothing to do and no time to do it’. There is always something to keep you busy on Nantucket. Summer presents a wide range of island activities for all ages.
You can find something interesting to do nearly any day of the week on Nantucket.
Get the Oversand Vehicle Permit for your car. These stickers cost $140. With this permit on your bumper, you can go to Great Point all the time. Even if you don’t fish, watching other fishermen go for blues and stripers can be exciting.
Bring a grill and a cooler full of burgers, hotdogs, beer, wine and cocktails and turn a sunny afternoon into an evening of fun.
Cisco Brewers serves delicious, locally brewed beers and is a fun destination too. Once you’ve had Cisco beer, there’s not going back.
Awaken the artist within you and try an Artists Association of Nantucket class or workshop. There is always a beautiful landscape to paint on Nantucket. Still, you have to paint quickly before the tide rolls in and your easel runs the risk of being swept out to sea!
Every August the Garden Club hosts a lovely house and garden tour. This event often presents an opportunity to view some pristine and professionally decorated island homes. If you lived in one of these homes, you’d be living the dream.
We love our veggies on Nantucket and nearly every day presents an opportunity to visit Bartlett’s Farm. I dream of their corn on the cob all year long. My mouth waters just thinking about it.
Almost everybody loves a lobster when they’re on a summer vacation. Try the ‘cooked and cracked’ lobsters from Sayle’s Seafood. These are a perfect dinner after you’ve spent a long, hot day in the sun.
Don’t forget to request melted butter for dunking, French fries to have on the side, and their fantastic clam chowder. It will be hard to forget this wonderful dinner.
Rent a kayak from Nantucket Community Sailing at Jetties Beach. Renting a kayak is fun and good exercise. The water at Jetties is often calm, which makes for smooth sailing. Steering in the direction of Brant Point is a wonderful scenic route to take.
Fishing on a commercial vessel is another exciting idea . Check out The Just Do It II or The Albacore for a fishing trip. Most of the time, you’ll catch bluefish, but sometimes you’ll get striped bass. Nothing is more exciting than catching your own dinner. It’s safe to say that the catch of the day is pretty fresh.
