Touring Penang is always exciting. The only caveat being that you must know what to do there. Penang has a list of touristy gifts. You just have to take full advantage of them. The range of things to do in Penang Island just surprises one. Being among the most visited spots in Malaysia, it’s got something for each and every visitor. Possessing so many attractions that the traveler values, it’s a place you must not skip during holidays in Malaysia.

Sightseeing
Sightseeing, as everywhere, is first thing the tourist to do. First of all, visit the beaches of the likes of Batu Ferringhi and Teluk Bahang. If you have enough of beaches, you go to temple such as Mariamman, Kek Lok Si, Khoo Clan, Quan Yin or Dhammikarama. St George Church, Esplanade and City Hall are some other good places to travel. Monkey recreation area, stretching over 30 hectares of forested hills, is quite famous among children. Those interested in local history can visit the state museum.

Dining
Penang is known for delicious local dishes. You would discover hawkers in all parts of Penang serving traditional food. Many of them offer food altered to Western preferences. So if you would like to get the real local taste, inform the cook not to Westernize the particular preparation. You can go to places such as Char Kway Teow, Lor Bak, Tau Sah Piah and Penang Laksa for experiencing traditional hawker food.

Nightlife
You could always entertain yourselves in pubs and bars which abound in Penang. Most of the nightlife spots in Penang are situated in Batu Ferringhi. Once the sun sets, people begin thronging these nightlife spots. Most of these places have been once discotheques catering to the locals. With the expansion of tourism, the discos, in order to cater to the tastes of overseas tourist, have been refurbished as western type nightclubs. Shopping
Even though Penang is not famous for shopping, one can collect some good souvenirs. One could search for intricate crafts and hand-made jewellery to custom goods such as watches, leather bags and sportswear. Most tourists like to shop at the road-side outlets. If you prefer mall-hopping, visit Georgetown, the capital of Penang. For first time shoppers, shopping in the ‘pasar malam’ or the night markets is a fairly pleasure-filled experience. These types of markets give the visitors a glimpse into the life in Penang.
