Question by samjad: When to book a flight for Amsterdam from New York?
1. I plan on going in december, so can somebody advise me that is that time of the year alright and that when should i book my flight to get the best deal for december, travelling probably after the 15th?
2. Also if amsterdam would be more expensive to fly to than Frankfurt, Germany. I plan on visiting both the places and i want to go to germany first and then head to Amsterdam, is that alright?
3.Furthermore, once in europe i will be travelling with my girlfriend, so where should we live to get the best accomodation deals in Amsterdam? And the plan is for 4-5 days maybe, so how much budget should we have per person, per day?
4. Also perhaps suggest some sightseeing or other activities for a couple to do in the city too apart from the partying!..

Please keep in my mind that we’re not heavily in to drugs or drinking so just want to spend some quality and fun time together there!…

and i know too many questions in there but just had to ask everything as the internet is giving me conflicting search results so i wanted some hands on experienced advice!

When to book is always a bet, you never know for sure what the prices of plane tickets are going to do. But in the long run, early bought tickets are almost always cheaper than tickets bought a short time before traveling.

Travel between Frankfurt and Amsterdam is easy. I would go for flying into one and out of the other, to avoid doubling up. Most likely the cost will be about the same as the price difference in plane tickets, (or the train being more expensive.)
Here is a link to a site that can give you all info about the train journey you need:
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en?newrequest=yes&protocol=http:&
With the fast train it takes about 4 hours and is a little over €100 when bought on the day of traveling, but if you are willing to prebook (up to 2 months in advance,) tickets are available from €39.

Staying in hostels, you can count on spending about $ US100 per person per day. But it is very easy to spend more.
You can find hostels by googling on the name of the town and the word hostel, or search the older answers here, as there are a lot of questions about hostels in Amsterdam.)

A good site with a lot of information about Amsterdam is:

I do not know how often the other answerer has been in Amsterdam, but I bet it is not often.
Most people in the Netherland have learned English as second language, German and French are coming as 3rd and 4th languages but by not even half as many people, only in the border area with Germany and in the coastal villages where a lot of Germans hold holidays you will find Dutch people who do speak German but no English, and not many of those. The people who have learned German in school but no English are rarer still.
In Amsterdam you are as likely to find people who speak English but no Dutch, working in restaurants or shops.

Central Amsterdam is indeed near the station, but not just a few blocks. If you look at a map of Amsterdam, like this one:
http://www.amsterdam.info/map/ (Zoom out once or twice,) you will see a half circle of canals. All within and just outside this ring is central Amsterdam and either within walking distance from the Central station, or within a few minutes on the tram or bus. Public transport is good and plentiful in Amsterdam, and not expensive. Taxis are expensive and not needed unless you travel with too much luggage, and even then you can go by bus or tram.

A good site to search for plane tickets is http://www.skyscanner.net/

Question by Maggie S: Where to stay in New York City at Christmas time?
I really want to go to new york to see the christmas decorations. I was going to go last year, but never did. My mom says we should go later, but I said I want to see it at christmas time. She wants a really nice, but cheap hotel. Are there any good ones in like manhatten or other places down by the best shopping? I think we are traveling by train so if you could find a good hotel and train deal that would be great. How long do the stores keep their christmas decorations up? I know that they are up in january. Does anyone know of any good guide books that would help? I would really like all the help I could get. Please give me information along with websites. Thanks!

Nice hotel and cheap are words that do not belong together for the Manhattan area. I found the Holiday Inn on 57th to be a fairly decent price (for New York!) and the rooms were clean.

It can be a bit of a walk to the main area of 42nd street, but you get to see more of the city.

Question by Dianaramaa: When is the best time to book hotels for New York during Christmas time?
I’m trying to find good deals for New York (Midtown Manhattan Hotels) for the first week of December and I was wondering when the best time to buy was? I know rates start to sky rocket but do certain hotels have deals or anything? All in all should I just book months ahead or wait about a month or two before for deals or such and book then?

Book it now to guarantee a vacancy in the hotel you want near the holiday tree.
Hotels have seasonal rates so it will be more expensive the closer it gets.
By checking earlier, you can see which hotels has the best rate and amenities.

Only do this if you are guaranteed to come to NY to avoid cancellation fees.

Hotels packages will have a good deal but be sure to read the fine print.
Often you will have to use a certain airline, hotel rewards or credit card.

Good luck.
