Question by mrswaddell: Will Christmas decorations in NYC still be up Jan 2-5, 2009?
I’m planning to travel to NYC Jan 2-5. Will the decorations still be up from Christmas? When do they take down the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center? What about after-Christmas sales…will there still be some good deals during that time?

Yes they will. I believe it is usually the 10th of January when they go down. Last year we went from the 2nd to the 7th and they were up in Rockefeller the entire time.

As far as sales, that word is non-existent in NYC unfortunately.

Have fun and stay warm 🙂 !!!

Question by Nia: should I travel to see my family this Christmas?
It’s been about seven years or so, that I haven’t spent Christmas or New Years with my family (except Mom).
I found this really good deal and I saved up just in case I wanted to go.
Just that I don’t know whether I should go or not.

1. I’m a bit scared to travel alone, even though I have done it before.
2. The whether freaks me out a bit.
3. I don’t know if I should leave my boyfriend and Mom around this time of year.
4. people whom I want to visit may not have that much time left as much as I’d like them to.

If I don’t go, I may regret not going.
If I go, I may get somewhat paranoid.

Can you take your Mom and/or boyfriend? Maybe go a few days before the holidays or a few days after if they have family commitments and can’t leave on Christmas? I think you should go. You’ll be thankful you got the time with your family and all the possible bad things won’t matter once you are there. Take books, magazines, music or whatever you need to make you feel comfortable and not paranoid and be proud that you have the guts to do it.

First off, I would not take a child to Las Vegas, it is not a place for children, but if you have to go, the Paris is nice and also we are staying in the Riveria in April. If money is no object the Bellagio or the Palms would be nice. As for things to do, the Red Rock Canyon is nice and also the Hoover Dam

Question by justmee_333: Am I wrong to not want to travel for Christmas?
I am in a spot with my family. First, a bit of background. My partner of 20 years and I split a few months ago and our daughter and I moved into a new house. I had wanted to spend our first Christmas here. My brother and sister wanted to come over for a day. Well, I work 50-60 hours/week and am still trying deal with where to put stuff in a place that’s about 1/3 the size we’d been in. I decided I just couldn’t get it pulled together here.

My sister, who has no children, lives an hour away from me. I was hoping we could have it there, but my brother, whose children are grown, instead said it will now be at his house which is several hours out of state. Our sister has too many housepets for his liking, and his home is a veritable mansion.

Personally, I don’t want to do this traveling. My daughter is gone for 3 days on the opposite end of the state with her dad’s family. The brakes are going on my car, and I can’t get them fixed in time. Where we live is experiencing deadly cold and storms all week. I don’t think it’s safe for me to travel. Plus daughter would have approximately 1 hour to unpack and repack, then be on the road for hours again. She doesn’t want to travel any more either. Like me, she’d wanted to spend our first Christmas at our house, together.

I mentioned this to my sister last night and she blew a gasket, hurling all sorts of insults and names my way. I would love to see my siblings, but the thought of all the travel is completely taking any joy out of the season. Am I really being that unreasonable to want to spend my first Christmas as a single parent at home with my child, who wants the same?
Forgot to add that we’ve also been dealing with frozen water pipes, and I’m afraid to leave the place unattended for 2-3 days. If the pipes burst, the results will be devastating. There are no neighbors that will be around that would be able to check the place for me.

Question by dominicinco: Where can I find excellent last minute deals for 3-4 nights departing from NYC this Christmas?
I have 5 days off work from Dec 23-27 and I’ll be traveling with my gf, we prefer to go somewhere warm and would like to spend around $ 350 per person. I already checked ‘last minute vacation’ specials on airlines websites and travelocity, expedia, orbitz, etc.. but didn’t see anything good.
Oh and we can travel ANYWHERE in the world, it doesn’t matter if it’s cold, anywhere besides Central US and New England.

If you’ve tried the airline sites themselves, try doing a search on Yahoo for them. There are plenty of sites that have these deals going on. Good luck!
