I want to find an affordable but not dinky hotel near withing short driving distance of the zoo and sea world, any ideas? also, where online should i book for hotels to get the best deals? check in date is december 29 and check out december 31. thanks for all who help.

You’ll probably want to stay closer to one spot rather than in the middle, will cut down on your travel time.
There are several places right outside of Sea World — in fact, the Good Nite Inn Sea World is having a “10% off when you stay 2 nights” special for the dates you’re looking to stay – $ 65.70/nite for 1 bed, $ 72.90/nite for 2 beds/
Anywho, head to http://www.resideo.com/us/california/sandiego/ and click the “Check Availability” button. Choose your dates, submit the form, then choose Sea World or the Zoo from the distance dropdown, that’ll sort the results putting the closest places first (and will show you how many miles away each place is from whatever place you choose).
