Visiting Thailand is a must for any backpacker. Cheap Hostels from $1 per night are a plenty however be warned they are not pretty. When travelling in South East Asia it is best to pay a little more and travel in comfort. There is much to see. Don’t miss Kho Phi Phi beach. That is where The Beach staring Leonardo Di Caprio was filmed. The night life in Bangkok must not be missed.

Travelling on a budget can mean calls to family are not a priority. But what do you do when you are missing them? Skype is the answer and has been around for a few years. With Skype you can make free international calls. For those that don’t know VoIP is the technology that powers Skype and the other internet based telephony services. This has meant that computer to computer voice calls are totally free.

If your family at home have a computer, broadband, microphone and a headset they can be ready in minutes to receive that call you have been putting off. If they are not comfortable with using a computer when making a phone call you pay for a Skype phone device and set it up before you leave on your travels. All you need to do is to configure the device to your local network and you will be ready to dial in seconds.

Using VoIP to make international calls is the easier way to call Thailand. In years gone by you may have used a calling card, but these days most people have access to the Internet. If you are in Thailand and need to call back home the best way is to get to an Internet Café and call your folks. As long as you have warned them to be at home you can chat for as long as you want.

North America And Europe Travel deals

Often rated as probably the best place in N. America to take your children on a skiing holiday. Smugglers’ has an array of activities and entertainment options for the kids with some very friendly beginner slopes. The instructors at Smugglers’ have also been specially trained to deal with young learners, so this really is a fantastic place. However, what makes this such a popular choice is that in accommodating for little one, Mums and Dads have not been forgotten and there are also lots of things for Mum and Dad to do when little one is safely tucked-up in bed. All-in-all, a great resort town.

* Whistler, British Columbia, Canada
Already known as one of the best ski resorts in the world, Whistler also qualifies as one of the best places in N. America to take your children on a skiing holiday. Here, Whistler is one of the few high-end ski resorts in N. America that not only freely allows snowboarding, but actually encourages it! Specially trained ski instructors also means that you can leave your children with the instructor for a while whilst you go off and ski some of Whistler’s more advance slopes. And, if your child decides that skiing is not really for them, this wonderful resort town has plenty of alternative activities that will keep them entertained for hours at a time.

* The Canyons, Utah, USA
Centred around Park City, the Canyons in Utah are considered one of, if not the, most family-friendly ski resorts in N. America. Not far from the Canyons is Salt Lake City, home of the 2002 Winter Olympics. Certainly a top consideration for young families looking for a scenic, learner-friendly, ski resort.

European Skiing Resorts

* Les Arcs, France
Les Arcs holds itself out as being the first purpose built ski resort in the world catering to children! The resort is designed on a French-Canadian style village with a cable car linking it to the resort of La Plagne. The resort is huge, and has ample ski runs to satisfy both the more professional skier and the complete novice. The ski resort area at 1800 has a specially built children’s zone with magic carpet lifts and sledging tracks. Really, if Europe is the ski destination of choice this year for you and your family, give serious consideration to this resort – it’s superb!

* Ski Schools, Soldeu, Andorra, Spain
The ski resort in Andorra is set up specifically to help young children learn how to ski and is widely considered one of the best schools to learn to ski at. Many of the recent graduates of this school have gone on to compete on the European ski circuit. However, the school also offers classes to adults; and is so diverse and in tune with the public’s feelings towards skiing, now has a snowboarding school! Skiing lessons here are given to children wanting to learn from as early as 12 months old – showing that you have to prepare children early in the modern world of skiing championships. It should be noted, however, that this school is set up specifically for the serious learner, so if you want to partake in extra activities, you’ll need to make arrangements to go off camp. Aside from that, fun is the order of the day at the school!

How To Make Sure You Find The Best Holiday Travel Deals

In today’s world, it seems that almost any topic is open for debate. While I was gathering facts for this article, I was quite surprised to find some of the issues I thought were settled are actually still being openly discussed.

You may not consider everything you just read to be crucial information about the best holiday travel deals. But don’t be surprised if you find yourself recalling and using this very information in the next few days.

The internet gives us access to just about anything we can imagine. This includes finding flights, trains, buses, hotel rooms, and rental cars that we can use to travel for the holidays. While most of these entities are more expensive when you travel over the holidays due the demand, you can still find some good deals if you take the time to look.

You will generally find that you can save the most money on holiday travel if you purchase a complete package deal. This is less expensive than buying each piece that you need individually. It also provides you with only one confirmation number that you need to keep track of instead of several different ones.

There are literally hundreds of sites online where you can look for holiday travel deals. You can search by your destination in a search engine or choose the various sites you have heard about. It is a good idea to keep a list of the sites you visit and the prices you are coming across. This way you can compare the prices and easily remember where you want to go back to.

Most of the time fares will be cheaper online than by contacting the place directly because it saves their business time of having to set up the travel arrangements for you. Make sure you carefully read all of the information though because some travel deals have hidden costs that you don’t want to be liable for. You also need to check into the cancellation policies and about rescheduling your trip.

Some online travel deals don’t offer any refunds at all so if a family member dies or you have an unexpected illness you won’t be able to get your money back. Even if you show up late for your flight because you got caught up at security they won’t honor your purchase. This can be extremely risky because there are too many variables that can affect holiday travel.

Make sure you also pay close attention to the amount of time that you will be in the process of getting to your destination. You may find a killer price but it isn’t going to be worth it if you have several connecting flights and layovers along the way. Look for direct methods to get to your destination whenever it is possible. There are simply too many delays during holiday travel to ensure you can get to those connections on time.

Many of the sites you visit online will allow you to sign up for special offers and promotions. You should take advantage of these offers so that you don’t have to continually return to their site to check for changes in prices. Some of them even allow you to enter a price so that you can be notified if the price of the trip you want drops to that price. For those that can only afford holiday travel if it fits a specific budget, this is a valuable feature.

During your search online for holiday travel, be flexible with your dates. You will be able to save hundreds of dollars just by being willing to leave a day earlier or leaving in the evening instead of the afternoon. Those that want a specific travel arrangement will find this ties them into more expensive offers. Even if you travel a day earlier and have to pay for a hotel room that extra night you could save hundreds of dollars.

It does take some initial planning of where you want to travel and how you are going to get there in order to find the best travel deals. Investing a few hours of your time in getting the best price though is well worth the savings you will get from it. Millions of people travel each year over the holidays but some of them pay more for the same trip because they didn’t look for holiday travel deals online.

That’s how things stand right now. Keep in mind that any subject can change over time, so be sure you keep up with the latest news.

When to book is always a bet, you never know for sure what the prices of plane tickets are going to do. But in the long run, early bought tickets are almost always cheaper than tickets bought a short time before traveling.

Travel between Frankfurt and Amsterdam is easy. I would go for flying into one and out of the other, to avoid doubling up. Most likely the cost will be about the same as the price difference in plane tickets, (or the train being more expensive.)
Here is a link to a site that can give you all info about the train journey you need:
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en?newrequest=yes&protocol=http:&
With the fast train it takes about 4 hours and is a little over €100 when bought on the day of traveling, but if you are willing to prebook (up to 2 months in advance,) tickets are available from €39.

Staying in hostels, you can count on spending about $ US100 per person per day. But it is very easy to spend more.
You can find hostels by googling on the name of the town and the word hostel, or search the older answers here, as there are a lot of questions about hostels in Amsterdam.)

A good site with a lot of information about Amsterdam is:
http://www.amsterdam.info/

Added:
I do not know how often the other answerer has been in Amsterdam, but I bet it is not often.
Most people in the Netherland have learned English as second language, German and French are coming as 3rd and 4th languages but by not even half as many people, only in the border area with Germany and in the coastal villages where a lot of Germans hold holidays you will find Dutch people who do speak German but no English, and not many of those. The people who have learned German in school but no English are rarer still.
In Amsterdam you are as likely to find people who speak English but no Dutch, working in restaurants or shops.

Central Amsterdam is indeed near the station, but not just a few blocks. If you look at a map of Amsterdam, like this one:
http://www.amsterdam.info/map/ (Zoom out once or twice,) you will see a half circle of canals. All within and just outside this ring is central Amsterdam and either within walking distance from the Central station, or within a few minutes on the tram or bus. Public transport is good and plentiful in Amsterdam, and not expensive. Taxis are expensive and not needed unless you travel with too much luggage, and even then you can go by bus or tram.

A good site to search for plane tickets is http://www.skyscanner.net/

What do you think? Answer below!

Question by Maia-Kine’: Can anyone refer me to a good travel agent or cruise line for Tahiti (South Sea Islands)?
I’m looking for a great package deal for 7-10 days in January.
