December Cruise Deals Archives

Question by Kristin: I want to get married… question about a cruise.?
Me and my fiance are wanting to get married on 10/10/10. That is a Sunday, we are so excited. We have been together for 5 years ago and he purposed on December 23rd 2009, our anniversary. We have talked about getting married for about 2 years now and we have always said that we wanted to get away for the wedding.honeymoon. We have decided about a year ago that we want to get married on a cruise and have our honeymoon while we are on the ship. Does anybody know any good deals on cruises? I have checked out a couple of things online but I cannot really figure out whats a scam and whats not. I did find out about the Caribbean Cruise liner ship, that you can get married on that but I cannot find anything out about the date. 10/10/10 is the date that we absolutely want. Perfect 10 on our engagement, perfect 10 on our marriage and a perfect 10 on our life together. Its may sound korney but we love it. We are so excited but we need a little help on finding a good website or something that will lead us to more information on our wedding and honeymoon. If anybody can help, we would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much!
God Bless,
Kristin

We have been on 15 cruises, and have seen couples dressed in wedding garb, which tells me they had their ceremony on the cruise. I think your best source would be a travel agent, as they can give you the comparison of the different cruise lines that accommodate you. Congratulations!!

Question by Princess Ann: Looking for a cheap, 7 day cruise to Hawaii?
Where can I find a cheap 7 day cruise to Hawaii, that is scheduled for December 07 or January 08, for 3 people. I know I heard on the news the other day that January-March is “wave season” where the cruise lines give out great deals but how do I find them? I’ve tried, Royal Caribbean, Princess Cruise Lines, Norwiegan (sp?) Cruise line, and Carnival and I haven’t found a 7 day cruise yet. Anyone know of a travel agency online that could help or where to go for a great deal?
Thanks
Anyone have any use-able suggestions? Other than “You’ll be looking for a long time” Oh and cheap is if possible no more than 1000 per person, I live in California so maybe a departure from LAX or a Flight included into the price to Hawaii for the departure.

Me and my girl are going on a cruise in december, the two stops are Georgetown, Cayman Islands and Costa Maya, Mexico. We want to rent jet skis and drink and stuff, is it really expensive on the islands or pretty cheap?

Are those nice places to stop? The cruise is through royal carribean and we got a smoken deal on a 5 night cruise.

I’ve only been to the Cayman Islands, but I can tell you that stuff there is a little pricey. But not unaffordably expensive! And Georgetown is a pretty cool place, but I suggest hitting the beach there! It’s awesome!

Question by Mike K: Is it better to book a cruise early or closer to the departure date?
I’m looking to go on a cruise in January but want to get the best deal. Would it make more sense to book early or hold out until late December? I know things like hotels and cruises sometimes lower prices as the departure date nears in order to fill vacant space. Whats my best bet?

It depends on the category you want to cruise in. `You may not be able to get a cabin or stateroom in the location you want to because it could already be booked. I would suggest that you keep an eye on the cruise line you are interested in and if your category starts to book real quickly, then you should book a room.

Question by PlsHelp: Where can I find a cheap cruise for under 400 dollars per person?
I need to find some discounts for a cheap cruise, Some of my family booked a Christmas cruise but it is costing more then $ 500 a person. I need to find it cheaper and I know with the economy it is out there some where. Please help, I am looking to leave out of Tampa Florida on the 24th of December 2009. A 4-5 day cruise on Carnival to Cozumel Mexico. Where are the deals?????

Answer by Mary L
Things are certainly changing with the current economy issues, but historically there have been very few bargains in cruises over the Christmas holidays, and no deep discounts. And the ships seem to be sold out very quickly, too. You can find pretty good deals in cruises just before and just after Christmas, but generally not during Christmas itself. However, things are indeed changing, so why not meet with a travel agent?

Question by funkymonkey627: A cheap cruise leaving from NY to Carribean?
Looking for a cruise this December for my girlfriend and I to the Carribean? Where can I find good deals and is it cheaper to leave out of NY or to fly into Miami and leave from there? Usually the ones that leave out of Miami are much nicer.

Answer by tom_price
If you want warm, I’d suggest a departure from south Florida or San Juan. Too many sea days from NYC to get to somewhere that’s warm AND you have to get back.

FLL is somewhat easier than MIA and some of the nicer trips leave from there. It’s also a nice place to extend a day or two pre- or post-cruise.

If you leave out of SJU, you’ll get even more days on the islands since everything is so close by. Some of the trips visit places you would have to do a 10 day or longer trip to see if you departed from the states.

With oil prices up, air fares are too. But, I’ve seen fairly decent prices to MIA/FLL and SJU. Check the cruise line plane reservations but you can almost always do better on your own. Don’t overlook airlines like Jet Blue that only book on their own web site.

Lots of web sites book discount travel. I’ve used Cruise Value a number of times but be advised that they 1) charge for cancellations and 2) do not give you the benefit if the price goes down after booking. They’re often cheapest and sometimes offer perks like free travel insurance or pre-paid gratuities. But, know what you want and research the prices ahead of time.

Question by Sock Monkey: Are last-minute cruise deals really worth it?
I heard that sometimes stalling for time and booking a cruise a few weeks prior to the trip can save you a lot of money. But would I save as much if I booked 3 to 2 months in advance?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of waiting until the last minute? I’m guessing one of the negatives is that you’ll be stuck with a left over room in a crummy location of the ship.

If there are any specific answers/experiences related to a Eastern Caribbean cruise that my friend and I are planning on taking this December (from Florida, most likely Ft. Lauderdale/Miami, or Cape Canaveral), I’d love to hear from you. Also, we might be on either the Carnival or Holland America.

Thanks a lot!
P.S.- Do shore-excursion prices get more expensive if you wait? Or are they pretty much consistent–as in you could either book them along with your cruise ticket, or you could wait until the trip starts?

Cruisers have debated for years about the best time to book cruise vacations. Is it better to book early to get first choice of cabins and lock in a low rate, or should you wait until the last-minute to grab a deal?

As it turns out, there are benefits to both booking a cruise well in advance and waiting until the last minute. Cruise rates fluctuate and are often hard to predict. Some times the best deals can be had as long as 12-18 months in advance, and other times prices are slashed during the last 3-6 weeks before sailing. So this shouldn’t dictate when you decide to book.

You should book your cruise early-ideally, as soon as the itinerary you want is announced–if you need something specific that’s in limited supply.

For example, you should book early if you need to cruise on very specific dates like a particular holidays or school breaks, or if you need availability for a group of travelers for a wedding, family reunion, or corporate meeting.

You should also book early if you’re worried about getting flights. Flights using frequent flyer miles, for example, often need to be booked well in advance.

Certain specific cabins or cabin types tend to sell. High-end suites, adjoining cabins or cabins that accommodate three or more guests or handicapped cabins may not be available closer to sailing, so it makes sense to grab these right away.

You should also consider booking early if you want an unusual itinerary. This would include sailing on a ship’s inaugural cruise or cruises to with only a few sail dates–such as cruises to Antarctica, the Galapagos Islands or world cruises.

In these cases, you’ll want to take advantage of special early booking savings. Note that if you can book early can still cancel or change their plans within a certain timeframe and receive a full refund.

On the other hand, there are some reasons to book last-minute, by which I mean about three to six weeks in advance of the sailing.

For example, you should look for last-minute deals if your circumstances allow you to take off on short notice. It also helps if airfare isn’t a factor because you can easily drive or take a short commuter flight to the departure port. Booking late, you’ll need to be flexible about your cabin type and formal dining times, but you can often find some great last-minute deals.

Finally, I know that we all want to save money. But don’t put saving the last dime ahead of getting the cruise vacation that’s right for you.
