December Cruise Deals Archives

Question by icyblue1986: Disney Vacation Deal, is this still available?
Hello Everyone,

Last year i was looking at some christmas break options (anytime during december) for my friends and I, we are college students and were looking incredible deals on various trips. Last year I came across 2 deals that were hard to choose from, disney world, had 5days/4 nights (through their own site) for like 259$ /per person including base park tickets and a value level hotel; we ended up choosing a cruise the week before christmas, that was about the same price. I have since started dating someone who would love to go to disney, and i would love to be able to find this deal again for her, because it’s the only way i could make that trip happen. Does anyone have ANY clue as to how i could find this deal again, i’ve tried basic searches and came up with nothing, any ideas, help, or if you know they do it annually i would apprieciate it soo much if you would share this with me.

Thanks
– Icyblue1986

That price seems way low if it includes tickets.

Anyway, Disney will offer discounts when it needs to fill its rooms and the discounts don’t usually appear until just a few months before the dates of travel. Right now is way too early to find discounted packages for December. September/October is when they’ll be released for early December. Don’t bother with late December; it’s peak season and they’ll never discount then.

you have to do what feels right for you. if you were close with your grandpa you might lean towards going to receive closure and honor him. just know that if you choose this decision you’ll have lots of catch up work at school

Question by Pamela G: Cruise Planning Questions?
My husband and I have been on two previous cruises and have immensely enjoyed both.
We have a personal agent with Carnival and we are looking at going on the Carnival Liberty to Cozumel, Ochos Rios, and Grand Cayman in April 2009. Our travel agent says that we should go ahead book now, which I think we are going to do. I just want some more opinions.
The deal is we don’t know for sure that we are going to be able to go. My husband is graduating from college in December looking for a teaching position in High School Social Sciences. I am currently a 2nd grade teacher. If his job does not match up with my Spring Break we won’t be able to go.

My question is should we go ahead and put down our deposit and then cancel if the dates don’t work. Or do you think that cruise prices will be going down because of the economy?
By the Way- if you know anything about the Carnival Liberty let me know that also.
Do you guys realize that Carnival has a guarantee that they are the lowest (which I have checked out at multiple other places) and that you have to pay a fee to an outside agent which actually costs you MORE money.

Answer by TINKERTOY ….. the 1 & only
I suggest that you book now and make absolutely sure that you know exactly when the date is that you can cancel without any penalty and get all of your money back. Book now because cruise lines ALWAYS give the best price for early bookings 9 months to a year or more ahead of time. Its’ been my experience that the price always goes up as the cruise date approaches. I have been on about 20 cruises with 4 different cruise lines, but not on Carnival. But the booking and cancellation process on all cruises is basically the same. Normally you will be required to pay a deposit of about $ 250. per person to book and then the cruise contract will specify a date approximately 60 to 75 days before the cruise when you can cancel with NO PENALTY.

According to Carnival’s web site for a 7 day cruise there is no penalty if you cancel 76 days before the cruise (just to be safe I would count 80 days).: http://www.carnivalcruiselines.com/CMS/Static_Templates/ticket_contract.aspx

Question by HMGator: Christmas in the Carribean: To book last minute or ahead of time?
My fiance and I will be married in October but only have time for a budget honeymoon in December after classes are over. We are considering booking a cruise or Caribbean vacation packages last minute in order to get a better deal. Would it be a mistake to try getting a last minute deal a few weeks before Christmas? Surely not everywhere is going to be full even at that time. Thank you in advance!

Best answer:

Answer by The Cruise Ladies
Most of the last minute deals on Christmas cruises are slim and far between. Most holiday sailing sell out early and rates increase rather than decrease. It is “supply and demand” If there are tons of cabins left, prices drop. If there are only a small amount-the price will go up.
I book my guests both ways and usually for a holiday sailing, booking early is best

Question by Stacy Cervenka: Looking for a good cruise travel agent for a South Pacific, Australia, and/or New Zealand cruise?
My fiance and I are looking to take a cruise to either the South Pacific, Australia, or New Zealand for our honeymoon in December, 2011. It is the first cruise either of us have ever taken, so we’re hoping to find a good travel agent who is familiar with cruise lines in this part of the world. We’re young professionals who are just starting out in life, so we probably won’t be taking any luxury lines (Paul Gaughin, Seabourn, etc) unless we can get a really great deal! We’re most likely going to be taking something on Princess, Royal Caribbean, or another more affordable line. Does anyone know of a good travel agent who might be able to help us? Thanks!!

Answer by timetravler
Just look in your yellow pages for a travel agent that specializes in cruises. I use a company called cruise planners so you may look to see if you have one of those in your home town. In 2007, I took a cruise much like you want to take. It started from Sidney, Australia, went to 5 ports in New Zealand, then to many islands in the South Pacific, then to Hawaii, and finally to Los Angeles, California. Is was at that time 29 days long. Now, I believe it is 30 days long. It was with Princess cruises. This particular cruise only happens once a year so you need to book it way in advance. It is called a repositioning cruise, so it may not be listed in all the Princess cruise brochures.

Question by maura: Me and my best friend want to go on a cruise for our sweet 16?
Our birthdays are 2 days apart, hers is december 10 and mine’s the 12th, and we want to go on a cruise for our sweet 16 this year like a couple days after christmas and get back in early january 2009. The thing is she lives in VA and I live in NC so we were thinking of flying(or maybe driving…could take a while) to Florida where a lot of cruises take off. But we don’t know which cruise line to take, probably Carnival or Royal Caribbean but neither of us has been on a cruise before. Is there a deal where you can book a flight and a cruise? And who should come with us since we’ll only be 16? My mom and her mom or both of our parents? We don’t want the cruise to be that long, like probably 6 nights or under and we also want it to be affordable but not have it feel like its a cheap vacation. Any advice from cruisers?

I took a Princess cruise out of Florida for my honeymoon, and I loved every minute of it. Mine was book through an agent, who did both our airfare and cruise details. I believe that you can do a package deal with Princess. Here is their websitt, hope it helps!

Question by Scott M: My 30th B-Day is December 22nd. I know it’s early but im starting to look into how to celebrate it. Any Ideas?
A few ideas I have had are..

Going to Vegas – December weather there is around the 40 – 50s maybe even less .. Being so close to Christmas I would think that most people would choose more tropical climates instead and there for be pretty deserted.

Going on a Cruise – From what I have read most ships that offer good deals around that time are packed with kids and family’s. Not exactly what I have in mind, Oh and the chance of bad weather.

I thought about Hawaii but that about a 3 grand trip, which is a bit over my price range..

Any ideas?

Question by Theres Sh1t in my teabag: are cruises considered all inclusive?
Hi everyone. my question is simple, all that i am wondering is if when you go on a cruise, and you book it, are all cruise vacations all inclusive. If not, when you book a cruise, for instance they have deal for december, for four nights, and $ 200 a person, when amenities are included. Do i get all he meals and drink for free? Really all I care about, is if I go on a cruise, do I get free food and drink, or do I have to pay a tab?

Best answer:

Answer by TINKERTOY ….. the 1 & only
YES, almost all inclusive. The two biggest expenses after you book are alcoholic beverage and tips at the end of the cruise. But, here’s the deal in full.

When you pay for your cruise it includes all of your meals, breakfast, lunch dinner, snacks, and free room service; you can use all of the facilities on ship like the gym, rock climbing wall, pools and hot tubs, water slide, etc, and all of the shows and the disco and lounges are free also. You get free coffee, tea, milk, juices, and punch but you have to pay for alcoholic beverages and soft drinks. So take along with you (if you can get it before you board the ship) a 6-pack of soft drinks and a 6-pack of bottled water. Ask the cabin steward to take the stuff out of the mini-refrig in your cabin so you can put your water/soft drinks in there; they will. Cruise lines other than Royal Caribbean allow each passenger age 21 or older to bring on board at the departure port one bottle of wine or champagne. So bring one or two for your cabin.

The people that you are requested/required to tip would be the cabin steward, waiter and assistant waiter, and head waiter/matreD. The total of these tips will be $ 10 to $ 12 per day per person, depending upon which cruise line. Any alcoholic drink, or soft drink, that you buy on ship will have a 15% gratuity added automatically to the check that you sign. Your on-board bill for drinks, tour, and tips, etc, will be settled at the end of your cruise.

Most cruise lines will push drinks on you, especially the first couple days. Don’t think you have to buy drinks to have fun. If you don’t drink all day at home or on other vacations, then don’t drink all day on ship. Plus you’ll quickly run up a very high drinking bill. Then, buy the drink of the day which is usually about cheaper, by at least a dollar or more. Also ask for your drinks in a plain glass rather than the souvenir glasses they will be offering. This will save you about $ 1.50 per drink.

The cruise lines will offer a lot of interesting tours and activities off the ship, but they will be expensive. You DO NOT have to buy tours to get off the ship in port stops. You can go off on your own and many times in Caribbean and Bahamas ports you can find cheaper tours on the pier. Lots of places in the Caribbean you can get to a beach by taxi much cheaper then the ship’s tours. Do some Google search of your port stops to locate the best beaches and get names of tour operators and book your own. Just make sure that you get back to the ship on time.

There is plenty of free food on ship 24/7 so there really no reason to pay to eat in a specialty restaurant in ship. You’ll not be able to eat all of the great free food. The specialty places charge a fee between about $ 10 and $ 25 per person per visit. Just eat the free food; it will be great.

Cruise lines will take lots of photos of you boarding the ship, getting off in ports, at dinner, on formal nights, around the ship. These will be very expensive ($ 10 to $ 25) so take your camera with you all of the time and take your own photos and ask other passengers to take photos of you, they will gladly.

The ships have internet service but it is very expensive; likely about $ 50 an hour. Wait until you get to a port stop and find an internet cafe. Ask the wait staff and your cabin steward because they generally know where they are. The internet cafes on shore generally charge between $ 2. and $ 5. for an hour.

So the above are all off the optional expenses after you board the ship. You can eat all you want 24/7 and you can drink iced tea and lemonade all day free. But if you want alcoholic beverages OR even soft drinks you’ll have to pay for those. The only cruise line that sells an unlimited alcoholic drinks package is Celebrity cruise line and the packages are very expensive per day.

The $ 200 per person is a good price for a 4 day cruise but you should be aware that that price is probably for an inside cabin, the cheapest on the ship. You’ll pay more if you want an outside (window) cabin, and even more for a balcony cabin. So that $ 200 could easily turn into a $ 400 if you decide to do some upgrading. If you do upgrade the other charges and free items do not change.

Question by Kincso D: Help me plan a CRUISE?
So I want to go for my birthday in december (2009) or january (2010) depending on when my winter break is for school on a cruise. I need it to be less then one week so about 2-5 nights if possible. I live in seattle and want to go on a “cruise to nowhere” as in not visiting any ports just out to sea. If you see any deals would you inform me? Please! I want this to be memorable as well as cheap! Or tell me a website for planning cruises? (but preferably deals or prices you find)
Thanks for any help!

(has to be cheap cause im only 13 and only have $ 200 saved, so ways of making money would also help)

🙂
