Ask Questions First Before Buying a Timeshare
I have come to the conclusion that the best way to buy oneself a timeshare is to use timeshare auctions on sites such as Ebay. Why I say this is because the cost of a timeshare reduces dramatically when it is being resold and often the best prices can be found on Ebay. In fact sometimes if you are lucky you can even get it at 30% off the original price.
It certainly does not make any financial sense to buy a timeshare resort from the original company. They are expensive simply because you are paying for their company’s infrastructure and their marketing costs too. It is also true that very often the sales representatives of the timeshare company resort to making vague claims about what their resorts can offer. This could be because of the severe pressures that they are under to sell.
There are a lot of sites now available on the net which advertise all kinds of resorts. All of them claim that theirs are the best timeshares to own. You would be wise not to fall for all these absurd claims.
The sensible thing to do is to call the owner of the timeshare personally and talk to him. More often than not the bid amount which is reflected is not the actual amount which you will have to pay. There will be some maintenance costs and some other hidden costs might suddenly spring up. The rate might not be as attractive now!
Ask a lot of questions. Find out the kind of resort it is, how popular it is, when the best seasons are etc. Ask about how big the rooms are. Do maintenance costs increase every year? Is the seller the actual owner? Or is he being represented by a Title company? If so, there will be some extra charges involved.
Importantly, do not be afraid to ask why that timeshare is being sold? Is it because it is not an attractive venue? People don’t visit? If so, you might want to have a rethink.
